My baby was premature: which age does the routine use?

Enter the real birthdate and turn on the premature option. The app corrects the age for you.

On this page

Enter your baby's real birthdate, then turn on the "born early" setting and enter how many weeks gestation they were born at. From there the program corrects the age on its own, so the weekly routine matches where your baby is developmentally instead of how many days have passed since birth.

Why it matters: a baby born at 32 weeks isn't at the same stage as a baby born at 40 weeks on the same calendar day, even though they're the same age on paper. Corrected age (also called adjusted age) accounts for the early start.

How to set it up

  1. Open Settings and scroll to the Children section.
  2. Tap Add Child (or tap an existing child to open Edit Profile).
  3. Under Date of Birth / Due Date, set the real birthdate using the year, month, and day pickers. Use the actual day your baby was born, not their due date and not a shifted date - the program does the correction math, so a fudged birthdate throws everything off.
  4. Tick the box labelled My baby was born early (before 37 weeks). A short field appears below it.
  5. In Born at how many weeks?, enter the gestational weeks at birth, for example 32. The field accepts 24 to 36.
  6. Tap Save Profile.

That's all. The weekly routine and the exercises it suggests now use corrected age. When the correction is active, you'll see a small adjusted tag next to the week number on your routine - tap it and it confirms the week is based on your baby's corrected age.

How the correction is calculated

Corrected week = chronological week minus the weeks your baby came early, where "early" means 40 weeks minus their gestational age at birth.

A baby born at 32 weeks came 8 weeks early (40 - 32). So at 20 weeks old by the calendar, they show up in the program as 12 weeks corrected. You don't enter any of this yourself - just the birthdate and gestational weeks, and the rest is automatic.

If you already added your baby without it

Go back to Settings > Children, tap your baby to open Edit Profile, tick My baby was born early (before 37 weeks), enter the gestational weeks, and tap Save Profile. The routine recalculates the next time you open it. Nothing else to redo.

A note on corrected age

Using corrected age is the standard pediatric approach for roughly the first two years, after which most babies have caught up and chronological age takes over. Every premature baby's path is its own, though, and some situations need their own pacing. If your baby was premature with complications, or you're working with a physical therapist, follow your pediatric team's guidance for your specific case. See when to consult your pediatrician, not us and medical and orthopedic cases.
