How to delete your Facebook content without deleting your account
I was researching for an hour with AI and I don't even remember how I did it
Facebook splits the job across several lists. Deleting posts from your profile leaves comments on other people's posts, contributions in groups and messages. There isn't one profile cleanup that removes all of those.
The place to start is Activity log. From there you can clear posts, return for comments, then deal with each group. You can keep the account while removing the content you no longer want on it.
Choose what you're clearing
If you want everything you published gone, use the categories below as your working list. If you only want family photos removed, start with posts and images, then check the comments and tags around them.

The cleanup worksheet has space for the category, date range and result. You can use a note instead, but keep the dates: if you stop halfway through, they tell you where to resume.
Before deleting family photos, export anything you want to keep. Open Settings and privacy → Settings → Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Export your information. Choose Create export, your profile and Export to device, then select the information, dates and media quality. Some accounts use Meta Account in place of Accounts Centre. Choose HTML if you want a copy you can browse. The download includes an index page and the media you requested. Open it and check that the pictures and videos you wanted are there before deleting their Facebook uploads.
If you meant “clear Facebook history”
Facebook uses “history” for several things. Clearing one doesn't clear the others:

An older tutorial may call the last control Your activity off Meta technologies. Meta announced its replacement in June 2026, with a rollout across countries. If you're following an old guide and can't find the label, look for Activity from other businesses in the controls available to your account.
Open Activity log

If you also manage a Page, check that you're using the profile you intend to clear. Then check the date filter. Facebook says the default log view shows the current year, so a short list may simply exclude everything before January. Activity log instructions and date-range overview
Clear posts, photos and videos in a batch you can check
On a computer, choose Your Facebook activity → Posts → Your posts, photos and videos. Filter the dates, find an item and open its Options menu. Facebook's desktop instructions
To select multiple posts, Facebook's Manage activity instructions direct you to the iPhone, Android or Lite app. If your desktop view doesn't offer bulk selection, use the app:
- Open your profile's Activity log → Manage your posts.
- Use Filters to choose the dates or content category you want.
- Select the posts to remove.
- Choose the offered action and confirm it. Move to Recycle bin or Trash sends them to the recovery area explained below.
- Open that area and check that the selected posts moved there before clearing the next date range.
The list only includes content eligible for those controls. An empty Manage your posts list doesn't tell you whether comments, group activity or someone else's tagged photos remain. Facebook's Manage activity instructions
Archive, Trash and Delete do different jobs

Archive is the choice if you want the post out of view but want to keep it in Facebook. If you want it deleted, move it to the bin or use the deletion control offered for that content.
Restoring a post also restores its previous audience. A public post can become public again when you restore it, so leave it archived or in the bin if you don't want to republish it. Facebook's action guide
Go back for comments and reactions
Return to Activity log → Interactions for your comments, likes and reactions. Filter the dates and open each item's options: comments have deletion controls; likes and reactions have their own removal actions. These are separate from the posts you just cleared. Facebook's activity categories
If you're removing information about your child, read the replies you left on other people's posts too. A comment can contain their name, school or birthday without a photograph attached. Open it at the original post where you can, remove your comment and check that it has gone. Another person's reply quoting it would need its own request.
Clear group contributions, including groups you've left
Open Activity log → Your Facebook activity → Groups.
To remove individual contributions, choose Group posts and comments or Your reactions to posts in groups, then open the item's options. To remove your activity from a whole group, choose Your group membership activity, find the group, open its options and select Delete your activity.
Facebook says the group-wide route also works for a personal profile that has been blocked from a group or belonged to a hidden group. Leaving the group alone doesn't delete what you wrote there.
The group-wide action excludes some content, including reactions, invitations, activity in group events, album names and documents other people edited. When the action fails, check before trying it again
An error doesn't tell you whether the whole action failed or some items were removed. Reopen the list and a few of the selected posts before repeating the operation.

If the control keeps failing, use Profile picture → Help and support → Report a problem on a computer. Include the action, dates and error message so Facebook can identify the broken feature. Finish this round with a result you can understand
Return to the categories and dates you chose at the start. Check the bin or archive for moved posts, the comments list for removed replies, and the groups you used. If a group is inaccessible and you can't check the deletion, leave that recorded as unconfirmed instead of clearing it from your list.
Messages need a separate decision. Deleting a chat from your inbox doesn't delete it from the recipient's inbox, and individual messages have separate removal controls. Deleting posts also doesn't remove photos someone downloaded and uploaded again.
If you've decided to delete the account as well, use Facebook's account-deletion instructions. Check what will happen to Messenger, Pages you control and other services where you sign in with Facebook before confirming.
If you're keeping the account, decide what can go into the next post and tell family about the change. Otherwise your old pictures can return through somebody else's upload even after you've cleared your own.
