Blur Kids app privacy

Last updated 2026-10-06

Blur Kids is an app for iPhone and Android that covers faces in photos and videos. Everything happens on your phone. The app never uploads your photos or videos, and it collects no data about you: not to Baby Acrobatics, not to any AI company, not to any server. The Android app doesn't even have permission to use the internet.

What the app does with your photos and videos

You choose items with your phone's own photo picker, so the app only sees the items you pick. Face detection runs on the phone and works offline: on iPhone it is Apple's, built into iOS; on Android it is built into the app. The app works the same in airplane mode.

To save a covered copy, the iPhone app asks for add-only access to Photos, and the Android app adds it to your gallery without needing any permission. Neither can read or change your photo library. Saved copies contain the picture and sound only: location, camera details and original dates are not copied over. Your original is never changed.

Face data

To cover faces, the app runs face detection on your phone. For each face it finds, detection returns only a box: where the face is in the picture, how big it is, how it is tilted, and how confident the detector is. The app does not create face prints, face geometry or any other biometric identifier, and it never recognises, identifies or compares faces.

The app uses these boxes for one thing: to place covers over the faces and keep them in place as a video plays. Face data is never uploaded, never sent to Baby Acrobatics, and never shared with Apple, Google or any other third party. It is not used for advertising, analytics or training.

Face data is held only in your phone's memory while a photo or video is open in the app, and is discarded when you close it or the app closes. It is never written to storage or included in backups. The only related detail kept with a covered copy in the library is the number of faces it covers.

What stays on your phone

Covered copies you make are kept in the app's library so you can find them again. Only covered copies are kept, never your originals. The library stays on your phone, is left out of iCloud, Google and device backups, and is deleted when you delete the app. A temporary working copy is used while you edit and removed afterwards.

Copies you save to your photos or share with others follow the privacy and backup settings of wherever you put them.

What the app does not do

No account, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no advertising or tracking. The iPhone app contains no third-party code. The Android app uses open-source libraries that run entirely on the phone (OpenCV for face detection, and Google's Android Jetpack and Media3 for the screens and video); none of them send anything anywhere. The app does not recognise who anyone is: it finds faces, not identities.

Links and email

The app shows links to Baby Acrobatics and to our Instagram. They only open when you tap them, in your browser or the Instagram app, where those services' own privacy policies apply (for our website, the site privacy policy). The contact buttons open your own mail app; nothing is sent unless you send it.

Children

Blur Kids is made for parents and other adults preparing photos and videos to share. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
