
Carissa Heestand
OTD, OTR/L — Doctor of Occupational Therapy
Carissa focused on developmental readiness cues, co-regulation checkpoints, and ensuring caregivers know exactly when to pause or progress a routine.
Carissa earned her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University. During her doctoral studies, she designed, implemented, and published an eight-week caregiver co-regulation program. She also completed clinical rotations in a variety of inpatient settings, including the NICU, PICU, and oncology units. Carissa has since practiced in several outpatient pediatric settings, primarily working with children ages 6 months to 13 years. She centers her practice around neurodiversity-affirming, play-based care for infants and young children. Most recently, she collaborated with Farrell and Fuller Law Firm to deliver a presentation on sensory processing to caregivers across the nation. Additionally, she obtained certification in the Beckman Oral Motor Approach to support the development and implementation of infant and pediatric feeding programs.
